Sardinia Weather

The climate in Sardinia is warm temperate marine. Summers are dry and can be quite hot, while winters are humid and mild. Temperatures average 17 °C. Even if you travel here in winter, don't be surprised if you find some days as hot as in summer. Spring and autumn are wonderful if you prefer milder weather but summer can be great if you can cope with some heat. Thanks to the sea breezes, though, even hot days are not altogether unbearable.

December to February is considered the cold season and temperatures average 7° C. Interior regions can get colder, especially in the mountains and higher areas. Springtime runs from March to May and temperatures then are between 15 and 18 °C.

Rainfall on the island is scant and showers can be expected in the early winter or at the end of autumn. The close of winter is again marked by light rains as is the arrival of spring. The areas inland receive the most rain while the campidano plain and coastal belts get far less.

Sardinia can get quite windy and the mistral or winter wind blows in via the north-west of the island. In summer the same winds can get hot and make the land seem parched, setting off some minor fires in fields as well. The west coast experiences the onslaught of the libeccio and the ponente in winter.
