Itinerary
This journey in the flavours starts from the sea: Alghero with its coasts gives the opportunity to taste delightful sea food, from the sea urchins to the lobster cooked in Catalan style; all this served with the two typical wines of this area, the Torbato and the Cagnulari! During your stay in Alghero, a visit to the wine yards of Sella & Mosca is strongly recommended.

The territory of the province of Sassari, offers specialties like the horse meat and the "fainè", a typical Genoese dish. In this part of the island the evolution of the cheese production has brought to some new and original version, like the "Grananglona" and the "Ovinfort.

The trip continues towards the Gallura region, where the tradition offers ancient poor soups, born for the exigency to use the stale bread and all the ingredients in home at that moment: the "Zuppa Cuata" and the "Zuppa Berchiddese". You can't miss the "Panadas" from Oschiri (basket of pasta filled with mixed meat) and the sweet Ravioli. In this granitic area you will find important kinds of wine, the Vermentino di Gallura and the Moscato di Tempio, delicious to drink with special honey sweets "Acciuleddos". In the town of Berchidda, you have the chance to visit the only Wine Museum of the island.

Head to the inner part of the province of Nuoro, home of the Cannonau wine with plenty of versions, like the Nepente di Oliena, you might taste the different sausages, typical one those from Irgoli and the Sardinian raw ham, to eat with the original bread "Pane Carasau". The best pig you can taste (Porcetto) can be found in the traditional shepherds lunch, cooked with local recipe and served with leaves of Mirto (local plant). Finally we suggest a selection of sweets, like the "Aranzada" and the "Torrone di Tonara".

Driving back to the west coast, you will pass through the green pasture in the surroundings of Santu Lussurgiu. Here you can find a delicious meat of red beef and a very special cheese called "Casizolu". Don't miss the best "Macarrones de Busa" of the island, handmade pasta using knitting needle, and the local grappa Filu e Ferru. On the way back to Alghero, you can visit the pretty town of Bosa and avail of the opportunity to taste a glass of Malvasia.
